Unlike Pav Bhaji(that is medley of veggies), Misal Pav is made by using lentil sprouts in onion-tomato based curry. It is topped with some chopped onion, tomato, farsan, and lemon juice then served with Pav or Buns.

Misal pav is a popular dish from Maharashtra, India. It consists of misal (a spicy curry usually made from moth beans) and pav (a type of Indian bread roll). The final dish is topped with farsan or sev, onions, lemon and coriander (cilantro). It is usually served with bread or rolls toasted with butter and buttermilk or curd and papad.

Instructions to make Misal Pav:

  1. Boil the sprouted moong with salt & turmeric..
  2. Dry roast the coriander seeds, red chilli & coconut..
  3. Cool it & make powder..
  4. Heat a kadhai add 1 tsp oil add chopped onion, garlic clove& ginger sauteed for 1 mins..
  5. Add chopped tomato cook nicely..
  6. Add little water & cook nicely. Off the flame. Cool it &makes a paste mix with dry Powder masala. Heat a kadhai add 1 tbsp oil put cumin seeds, mustard seeds & curry leaves saute it..
  7. Pour the paste masala cooked nicely..
  8. Add goda masala & mix it well..
  9. Pour the boiled sprouts..
  10. Add a cup of water, jaggery,&salt mix it well. Cook for 2-3 mints..
  11. Sprout masala is ready..
  12. Cut the middle portion of the pav.spread butter. Heat a tava add butter &a pinch of pav masala. Put the pav &cooked on both sides nicely..
  13. Misal pav is ready. Serve with pav, onion, lemon, green chilies.garnishing with mixture & chopped onion..

Misal is a spicy curry made with mixed sprouts or moth beans (matki) and pav are buns (laadi pav). Misal is garnished with mix farsan (mix chiwda) on the top and also some topped with onion and tomatoes. Misal is made of various kinds and it differs from place to place. Misal Pav is a traditional Maharashtrian dish. Here dry sabzi is made from sprouted moth beans.
